EMDR Association UK & Ireland – 6 CPD points (applied for and pending)

The Recent Events Protocol (R-TEP) and the Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (G-TEP) were developed by Elan Shapiro as EMDR interventions for early trauma response, particularly following mass incidents. These protocols have been taught across the world, including in the UK, after the MEN Arena and London bombings and Grenfell Tower Fire in early 2017. Elan Shapiro has simplified and adapted the R-TEP protocol for online work by using a worksheet.

This highly interactive workshop, using guided practice and experiential practicum, will give you a chance to learn and practice this new recent events protocol for online working and the group face to face protocol.

The training is open to anyone who has completed at least Part 1 / Level 1 approved EMDR Training and is interested in expanding their skills to work with recent trauma experiences and/or ongoing stress following adverse or life-changing experiences, using an evidence-based protocol.

Elan Shapiro and EMDR Early Interventions

Elan Shapiro, a British Israeli Psychologist and EMDR Institute Facilitator & Consultant, is internationally known in the EMDR world for his pioneering work on EMDR protocols for.  Invited by Francine Shapiro to sit on the EMDR Council of Scholars, he was a Keynote Speaker at the first Global Summit Conference on EMDR Early Interventions (EEI) and Crisis Response in 2018.

EEI proposes that responding to an incident while trauma memories have not yet consolidated or integrated, not only treats acute distress but checks for sub-clinical sticking points which can get in the way of Adaptive Information Processing (AIP).   This may reduce the sensitisation and accumulation of trauma memories, prevent delayed reactions and possibly strengthen resilience.

This comprehensive protocol and EEI is evidenced by over 30 studies, which show how adaptable the worksheet can be, including use in:

·       Emergency departments within hours of an incident

·       Patients living with cancer

·       Mental health settings to prevent vicarious trauma among staff

The benefits of the GTEP Worksheet include:-

  • Brief Intervention, rapid effects
  • Can be used hours (in addition to PFA), days and months after the incident
  • Can be used on consecutive days, no homework
  • Visual worksheet can be used by clients with communication difficulties
  • Client administered Bi-Lateral Stimulation
  • Focus on points of disturbance (ring-fencing) for use with simple/complex trauma
  • Group, family or individual use of the worksheet
  • Reduces the possibility of long term PTSD effects
  • More effective use of staff and resources
  • Use by staff for ongoing self care
