EMDR in End of Life Care - workshop presented by Dr Karsten Böhm.

About this event:

In this practical workshop, EMDR is presented as a method in the treatment of end of life care.   Palliative patients experience EMDR as a useful and motivating method of therapy.  It also helps them to deal with their emotions in additional psychological treatments. EMDR will be shown as a useful adjunct method to somatic strategies and medication. The workshop will include video material and clinical demonstrations.

EMDR Phases 1 and 2: 
What is different in palliative care? 
 
Differentiation between the use of EMDR in PTSD and End-Of-Life-Care.
 
Demonstrate the use of the EMDR-protocol for End-Of-Life-Care & Target selection.
 
EMDR Phases 3 to 8: 
How to use the EMDR protocol with palliative patients.
 
Problems and blocked processing.
 
Interweaves.
 
Working on fear of death, sense of life, and emotional regulation.
 
Belief in God, or other forms of spiritual beings, and beliefs about what happens after death.
 
Biography of presenter:
 
Dr. Phil. Karsten Böhm, Clinical Psychologist, is a Senior Trainer in EMDR, Consultant in CBT and specialist in OCD, palliative care and (complex) PTSD psychotherapy. He is chair of the German EMDRIA board and a member of the German National Guideline Commission on the treatment of OCD. He is also a lecturer for psychotherapy at the EMDR-Institute Germany, institutes for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (e.g. Stuttgart, Bale in Switzerland), medical councils and on different congresses (DGPPN Congress Berlin etc.). He has published a number of books, articles, chapters and working materials on the use of EMDR in different groups of patients. From 2003-2009, he worked as a clinical and ward psychologist at the University Hospital of Freiburg and after that until 2021 as a leading psychologist in Klinik Friedenweiler of Friedenweiler in the Black Forest, Germany.  Currently, he works in private practice, with a focus on palliative patients.
