The EMDR Association UK has awarded 6 CPD points for this workshop.
Outline of the workshop:
Accumulative Trauma, EMDR and the Adaptive Information Processing Model in the Treatment of Children & Adolescents
This presentation will address the challenges and intricacies as well as the step-by-step strategies for working with children and youth with symptoms arising from accumulative trauma, ongoing stress and social isolation. The COVID pandemic has exacerbated previous trauma in children and their parents as they had to endure losses, seclusion, financial hardships, lack of social support and much more. This resulted in a distressed caregiving system that was forced to move out of connection and co-regulation into self- preservation and survival. This presentation will address case conceptualization and treatment planning using EMDR therapy and the Adaptive Information Processing System as a framework with this population. How to work with the collapsed or dysregulated caregiving system and how to work systemically with children and their parents to restore safety, mutual regulation, homeostasis and integration will be addressed.
This workshop will provide strategies and specific markers that will assist clinicians in the moment-to-moment decision making as they navigate through the eight phases of treatment with children and youth. Playful stabilization techniques as well as portals into the mind of the child that support emotional balance and affect tolerance will be covered. This workshop will address how to accompany children and parents as they develop the capacities to be able to move into the processing phases and work individually and dyadically. Clinicians attending this presentation will leave with strategies they can apply right away as well as a solid theoretical framework for case conceptualization and decision making.
Objectives:
Clinicians attending this training will be able to:
- Utilize case conceptualization and treatment planning strategies with children and parents with history of accumulative trauma and ongoing stress.
- Cite strategies and techniques that can be used within the eight phases of treatment to work systemically with children and their parents to restore safety, mutual regulation, homeostasis and integration.
- Utilize playful stabilization techniques as well as portals into the mind of the child that support emotional balance and affect tolerance.
