'EMDR: Sexology, sexual abuse & sexual violence: going beyond trauma

treatment into optimum sex life'

With Silva Neves

Saturday, 1st March, 2025. 9.30 - 4.30

Online & recorded

In this one-day workshop for EMDR therapists, Silva will present how sexual abuse and violence (in childhood and adulthood) affects people’s sex lives with the most common psychosexual problems: vaginismus, dyspareunia, inhibited sexual desire, anorgasmia, unreliable erections, premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation, anodyspareunia.

Typically, trauma therapy focuses working towards the positive outcome of reducing or eliminating post-trauma stress symptoms. However, in the case of psychosexual problems arising from sexual abuse and violence, the reduction of post-trauma stress symptoms do not always translate into a good sex life. EMDR therapy can go further beyond the PTSD treatment, towards helping clients reach an optimum and thriving sex life.

This workshop will present how to use EMDR protocols integrated with psychosexual knowledge for best sexological outcomes for clients. This workshop will be interactive, with practice through case studies. It will be an opportunity for practitioners to self-reflect on their level of comfort in talking explicitly about sex with clients, and therapists’ own biases and core beliefs about sex and relationships.

Learning objectives

1- Understanding psychosexual issues arising from sexual abuse and violence.

2- Integrating psychosexual knowledge with EMDR protocols, including the appropriate use of psychosexual education.

3- Therapist’s self-reflection on working with sexual themes in the consulting room.
